Upon Getting Rid of Bad Money

By Charlie Geier

Attention CC Sabbathia, John Lackey, Mark Texeria, Rich Harden, Vlad Guerrero….

The NY Yankees will be shedding  $89,916,266 in contract money at the end of this year. They will also be opening a new staduim that should rank as the best in baseball. Just an FYI.

Yankee fans amaze me. Why do you assume that the new ballpark “should rank as the best in baseball”? Maybe it will suck. Only time will tell. Lets watch a few games there before we declare it the best in the league. Spending the most doesn’t necessarily make it the best.

Just curious, how did you calculate that $89,916,266? And did you consider increases other players are owed in 09 over 08 as well as the cost of buy-outs (Giambi gets a 5 million buy-out for 09)? But I’d bet good money that Tex will be playing first base for you next year.

umm, when you take the best things about the current Yankee stadium, and make the crappy parts better you get the best park in baseball, in my opinion. what could be bad about it? Have you checked the plans/specs out? Why would it suck?

I got the money numbers by calculating the expiring contracts, and crunching some numbers based on this site http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2005/01/new-york-yankees_111398168678860040.html

Also, the Yankees have had no problem spending with all these contracts on the books, imagine what they will do wil 88 mil coming off. Even with increases and buyouts thats a lot of scratch to play with.

I’m not assuming it will suck. But I owuldn’t assume it will be the best either. We’ll know soon enough.

I would trade you Willie Randolph for Mike Mussina by the way.

After last night’s game, maybe they should just re-sign Cy Moose. :)

its a #4-5 start, from a guy I have maintained is a #4-5 starter on the team.

I agree you can get by with one pitcher of Moose’s caliber, but right now you have three such pitchers — Moose, Hughes and Kennedy. I still like Hughes, but he might not be ready yet. Moose blows. And who knows about Kennedy.
